Blogging assignment sheet

Weekly Blogging Assignment Sheet

Blog: a personal website or web page on which an individual records opinions, links to other sites, etc. on a regular basis. (Google Dictionary)

Students will have choice of Current Event Blog OR Reflective Blog each week. Blogs are due before class on Friday. Blog Comments are due on Monday.

Current Event Blogging

Students will read at least one magazine article related to the economy (with a preference for articles about our current topics). Choose articles from the sources posted on our edline page, which will change as the term progresses.
Students will then summarize their article in a blog post (include a direct link to the article).

In your first few lines state the author, publication, title and date of the article.

In the blog post:
  1. Summarize the main ideas presented in the article (IN YOUR OWN WORDS!)
  2. Explain your own opinion about the topic. Why is this your opinion?
  3. Reflect on what the topics presented in the article may mean to other aspects of the economy (or to businesses or governments)

Reflective Blogging
Students will think about what we did in class over the course of the week and tie together the lessons learned.

In the blog post:
  1. Summarize the week’s activities and topics
  2. Choose 1 topic on which to focus your blog
  3. Explain your opinion about that topic. Why is that your opinion?
  4. Reflect on how this topic may relate to other topics covered in class or how it may relate to current events in the news.

Over the weekend, read the blogs of your classmates and make comments adding to the conversation*. The blog that gets the most activity will be crowned "THE BLOG OF THE WEEK"

Evaluation:
  1. Evaluation of blog post each week (70 point)
  2. Participation in Friday discussion (10 points)
  3. Commenting on other's posts (20 points)

*Note: Comments that are derogatory will result in a score of 0 for the entire week's blog assignment. Comments need to add new insights or provide more information. A simple "I agree" will not count as a contribution.
